BRASS Notes
Message from the Chair
Get out the long underwear, scarves, and gloves if you plan to join fellow BRASS members in Denver. I believe the average daily temperature is in the 40s and average low is in the teens! To me this sounds pretty cold, but I am told that I am a temperature wimp!
As we are having problems with the transfer of our Web pages to the new format, I have included the schedule of events for BRASS at Midwinter. No room locations are available at this time.

BRASS Program Planning Committee, ALA Chicago, 2009
Saturday January 24, 2008, 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.; Room: TBA
The committee will be meeting to discuss the programs for the 2009 Annual. Thus far, we have a fantastic lineup of speakers. The program for 2009 Annual will be divided into two shorter programs, and they are:
Dollars, Pounds and Yen: Libraries in a Time of Globalization
A global analyst from Standard & Poor's and Terese M. Terry, Business Librarian at the Lippincott, Wharton School of Business will discuss the globalization of business and how this impacts the services offered by libraries of all types. As both industries and companies extend their markets the need for, and the distribution of, business information has become a large and growing need with an ever-increasing number of databases, trade magazines and research services.
Not so Silent Partners: Libraries and Local Economic Development
The focus of this program will be on public libraries and the role they play in assisting local area businesses. John Ericson, business outreach librarian at the Schaumburg Public Library will speak about ways to effectively conduct outreach within the business community. William Strauss, senior economist at the Chicago Federal Reserve will share his views about the national and Midwest economies.
These presentations will be accompanied by a poster session from three libraries that will illustrate local efforts and the work they are doing. Also available will be a list of all the publicly available information on the work being done by community colleges, public libraries and universities.
