Index to The Exchange: A Through K

Compiled by Charles R. Anderson

Photo of Charles Anderson and his retirement plaque"The Exchange" was a column in the journal RQ (volumes 1–37), which is now Reference and User Services Quarterly (RUSQ, beginning with volume 38). Early irregular columns were titled “Salmagundi.” The intent of the column was to provide answers to tricky questions, notes on unusual information sources, and general comments concerning reference problems and their solutions. The last Exchange column ran in volume 38, number 4, in the summer of 1999.

The following index is complete, covering volumes 1–38. The first number listed in the index is the RQ/RUSQ volume number. The number after the colon is the page number of that issue. Users should note that sometimes a question was posed but an answer was never found. An online database of questions and answers from the Exchange is accessible via this link.

In February of 2003, a book based on the Exchange column was published by Charles Anderson. This would provide full bibliographic information about the reference questions found in this index and the database.
